As a foster parent of 7 Autistic children lets start with- Tara- you have a fan club here! Good job!
BooksByTara start with a poem then get to the heart of the matter with pictures that are real and like most autistic children, literal. They are defined enough that each object can be counted, if the reader is so inclined, bright enough that the child can state the colors or just look and enjoy.
If there is a child with an artistic mind, perhaps he/she will see something in the shapes that we do not at first. Then when they say it, you look and sure enough you can see it too. Sort of like looking in the clouds and seeing things you wouldn’t see without someone next to you.
I have several children who love books, I have 1 who was never interested until he was introduced to BooksByTara. He is 12. He is also very literal, he has his own subjects he is interested in and they all need to make sense to him.
In his world there are trees so the book Autumn leaves fits right in to his world, he counts the leaves and states the colors, he mainly communicates in nouns anyhow. He is still learning the small words in between. Each time he looks at this book he sees something different and gets excited, what a complete change from the boy who doesn’t like story books because they make no sense.
The book “water” is awesome, all the children love that, what more is there to say, I mean Tara shows where to get it, how to play in it, how pretty it can be.
I could go on to review each book individually but I suggest you check out http://www.booksbytara.com and take a look for yourself. I think you already get the picture of how we feel about the books. BooksByTara gets a Raving Thumbs up from this household!
I love Books by Tara! Great review!
